About Bibliocity
Bibliocity is a free guide for people who love books, old and new. We explain rare and collectible books in plain English, and we tell the great classics in short.
What you will find
- Rare book guides: old book values, first editions, condition grading, book care and where to sell.
- Famous books in short: the story, characters, themes, lessons and exact quotes from public-domain classics.
- Author pages, themes and a free is my old book valuable? checklist.
How we work
We check facts against reliable sources, such as library and museum guides, auction records and the original texts, and list them on each page. Quotes are copied word for word from public-domain texts on Project Gutenberg. Read our editorial policy.
The name and its history
From 1997 to 2000, this web address was home to Bibliocity, an early online marketplace where antiquarian booksellers listed rare and collectible books. That business became part of Alibris in 1999. Bibliocity today is a new, independent site. It is not affiliated with Alibris or the original Bibliocity, and it does not buy, sell or appraise books.
